Ifeanyi: The nanny & the cook were trading blame over who was with the child before his death – Lawyer

The death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, the son of popular musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland, has been on the lips of many Nigerians since the sad news was announced a few days ago. Recall that the 3-year-old boy reportedly drowned in a swimming pool in his father’s house.

In a recent report by the Punch Newspaper, several professionals, including a psychologist, lawyers, and architects, were interviewed in regards to Davido’s loss. A lawyer identified as Patrick Oganwu, who spoke on the fate of the singer’s domestic servants, who were held in police custody, said, “The chef and the nanny are still in police custody, and it was said that they are being investigated.” If they are found to have been negligent in the discharge of their duties, they will be charged in court.

When asked if the bereaved parent would be held responsible for the death of the young boy, the lawyer said, “Our law has not developed to that level.” The nanny and the cook were trading blames (over who was with the child before his death). “It is only until the investigation by the police is concluded that the legal process can be continued.”

Another lawyer, identified as Femi Njoku, who spoke to Punch Newspaper on the matter, said that from what he heard, it was a case of negligence on the part of the domestic staff, whose duty it was to take care of Ifeanyi. He added that they could be sued for negligence.
