5. Dieumerci Mbokani

Dieudonné Dieumerci Mbokani Bezua is a 35-year-old Congolese professional soccer player currently playing as a striker for Kuwait Premier League side Kuwait SC.

Mbokani started his football career with Bel’Or and was the league’s topscorer in the 2004 season with 16 goals.

Mbokani played for the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, helping them to third place at the latter tournament.

With 328 goals in 704 matches, Mbokani is the fifth African highest goalscorer of all time.

4. Didier Drogba

Didier Yves Drogba Tébily is an Ivorian former footballers who played as a striker for Phoenix Rising and the Ivory Coast national team.

He is best renowned for his playing career at Chelsea, for which he scored more goals than any other foreign player and is currently the club’s fourth highest goal scorer of all time. Drogba was named in the Chelsea team of the 2010 to 2020 decade by Chelsea’s fans. He was named African Footballer of the Year twice, winning the accolade in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

With 369 goals in 795 games, Drogba is the Africa’s fourth highest goalscorer of all time.

3. Godfrey Chitalu

Godfrey Chitalu was a Zambian professional soccer player who played as a forward for Kabwe Warriors and the Zambia national team.

He is widely regarded as the best Zambian footballer of all time as he holds his national team’s goalscoring record and was voted Zambian footballer of the year five times. Fifteen years ago, he was also selected by CAF as one of the best 200 African footballers of the past 50 years. With 393 goals in 598 soccer appearances, Chitalu is the third highest African goalscorer of all time.

Upon his retirement from the world of football, Chitalu served as coach and was in charge of the Zambia national team when the entire squad perished in a plane crash off the coast of Gabon twenty eight years ago.

2. Samuel Eto’o

Samuel Eto’o Fils is a Cameroonian retired professional footballer who played as a striker for Real Madrid and the Cameroon national team.

Considered as one of the greatest African footballers of all time, he won the African Player of the Year a record four times.

With the Cameroon national team, Eto’o was member of the Cameroonian squad that won the Gold Medal at the 2000 Olympics. He also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002. Eto’o has participated in four World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations.

With 18 goals, he is the all time leading scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, and with 426 goals in 800 matches, he is the Africa’s second highest goalscorer of all time.

1. Roger Milla

Albert Roger Miller, simply known as Roger Milla, is a Cameroonian retired professional footballer who played as a forward for Monaco and the Cameroon national team.

He achieved international stardom at the age of 38 by scoring four goals at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and thus becoming the oldest goalscorer in World Cup history. He helped Cameroon become the first African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. Four years later, at the age of 42, Milla broke his own record as the oldest goalscorer in World Cup by scoring against Russia in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Seventeen years ago, he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players. Fourteen years ago, the Confederation of African Football named Milla the best African player of the previous 50 years.
