During a live video on Instagram on Tuesday, Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele tearfully reacts to the hate comments she has received following the passing of her colleague, Actress Jumoke Aderounmu.
Funke Akindele stated that Jumoke Aderounmu was featured in two of her projects, ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ and ‘Industreet’. However, after she completed her roles, she left. A while later, Funke Akindele said she decided to reach out to Jumoke Aderounmu and check up on her.
She said she sent a mutual colleague who was closer to Jumoke to check up on her. The mutual colleague reverted back to her that Jumoke was fine but she wanted more movie roles. Funke Akindele said she told the mutual colleague that she will give her more roles.
She said, “He now got back to me that they should be calling her for jobs. I said, ‘okay, no problem. We will call her for jobs’. But you guys know that after A Tribe Called Judah, I have not done any project”.
Funke Akindele said she has been receiving hate comments following the passing of Jumoke Aderounmu. “You know, somebody commented on my page, ‘May you bury your children’. I think that is serious. Why? What have I done wrong” –she said.
She said what broke her heart was when she saw a post that Jumoke’s brother said nobody checked up on Jumoke when she sick. She said she sent a message to the brother that she was not aware that Jumoke was sick. However, he saw it but didn’t reply –she said.
The Actress broke down in tears as she explains that she has been trying to get her own life together. She said she has been though a lot -from getting arrested during COVID-19, to losing her mother in 2023, to marriage crash, to political backlashing amongst others.
“I have got my trying moments too. During COVID, my mom passed on; politics I was backlashed, marriage, remember. Somebody now said you will lose your children. I think that is too much. I am trying to get my life together.” –she said.
