“One President, Two First Ladies” Questions After A President Introduced His Two Wives To The Public

One weeks ago Senegal elected a new president who is the youngest in the country’s history. The 43-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye will be leading the nation replacing Macky Sall. Recently a video showing two wives of Bassirou Diomaye Faye sitting together at an event went viral on social media. This has raised question across the globe and the main one being, does the country has two first ladies?.

The 44-year-old has two wives and four children. His wife’s names are Marie Khone Faye and Absa Faye. Marie has four children; 3 boys and a girl while Absa has no children yet. Each of the two wives has their own belief where Marie believes in Christianity, while Absa is a Muslim. The president is a Muslim and in Islamic a man is allowed to have up to four wives if he can take care of them. A polygamous bill was also passed in Kenya during president Uhuru Kenyatta tenure where men were legally allowed to marry more than one wife.

In Senegal the question remains who is now the first lady between the two and who will be representing the country in different first ladies congregations. Most men are praising the president while some women are bitterly against the idea of the president having two wives from different religions. What is your view on this? Let’s meet in the comments section and talk about this.
