The former Minister of Communications, during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, during an interview with The Nigerian Tribune, spoke on Buhari’s administration, current state of the nation and his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
When he was talking over his inability to become the Oyo State governor, he said he felt sorry for Oyo State people, because no one is suitable for the governorship seat in the state than him. Adebayo Shittu claimed that it was the late Abiola Ajimobi that prevented him from becoming the state governor, and a minister during Buhari’s second term.
He said, “In 2011, I first attempted and it didn’t work. In 2015, I tried but I was frustrated by my colleagues like the Late Ajimobi. He later became the governor and still resisted my appointment as a minister. The presidency had to appeal to him about that.”
Further talking, he said, “Also in 2019, I tried again and also got frustrated by Ajimobi who compromised the chairman of the All Progressives Congress, to disqualify me on the basis of me not doing National Service which he also did not do. He knew the risk and he did not allow it. All of these added to the reason why the All Progressives lost the election in 2019.”
When asked how he felt when he was not picked as Minister in Muhammadu Buhari’s second term, Adebayo said he felt bad because of the treachery.
He added, “It was this same Ajimobi that ensured I did not get it. Those he told didn’t even call me to hear my part. He had always been against me being in office. I felt very bad but I left it to God. I was a victim of treachery.”
