On 6th December, 2023 the Nigerian Senator representing Edo State South Senatorial District and also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Adams Oshiomhole while speaking before the National Assembly Joint Committees on Interior for a budget defense session in Abuja said that he had it on good ground that prisoners from foreign countries are working in Nigeria as construction workers.

According to Daily Trust, the Nigerian Senator representing Edo State South Senatorial District, Senator Adams Oshiomhole said “Your ministry needs to regulate the issuance of the quotas very well as I have it on good authority that prisoners from foreign lands are working in Nigeria as construction workers. Many non-Nigerians are in the country, and some of them live inside containers. They were being paid according to their country’s minimum wage by the construction industry that brought them.”

Senator Adams Oshiomhole added that he doesn’t want to mention the companies that are hiring prisoners from foreign countries to work in Nigeria as construction workers. He also emphasized that if he was provoked he would mention the company’s name.
