A suspect identified as Nkereuwem Etuk has confessed to causing the death of his girlfriend, Esther Ndifreke. According to his statement, he claimed that the unfortunate incident occurred due to a disagreement over her cooking abilities, which led to a near house fire. The Cross River State Police Command paraded him on Friday, July 21st.
According to the report from Vanguard, Nkereuwem Etuk revealed that his girlfriend’s incompetence in cooking rice had been a recurring issue in their relationship. When he confronted her about this matter, a heated argument ensued. He insists that he never had any intentions of killing her.
His statement reads, “Her inability to cook rice properly constantly frustrated me, and it became a significant source of conflict between us. There was a time she nearly burned down the house while cooking, as she failed to add enough water before reducing the gas flame. I questioned her about it, and that’s when the argument began. In the heat of the moment, I ended up assaulting her. However, my intention was never to take her life. Throughout our two-year relationship, we never had any serious issues before this tragic event occurred.”
Nkereuwem Etuk further explained that during the altercation, his girlfriend tragically collapsed, resulting in her untimely demise. He claims that he was primarily upset about her carelessness, which nearly endangered someone’s property.
