NASS President: I went to Lawan’s house, prostrated for him to support me but he refused- Akpabio

According to a news that was published by the Leadership Newspaper Online this morning, it was reported that Senator Godswill Akpabio, during a telephone chat and text messages, with Leadership Newspaper correspondent yesterday, has confirmed that truly, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, was leading a group of senators in the House, in a campaign of calumny to frustrate his bid to lead the Senate of the 10th National Assembly.

Recall that it was reported in the news that Senator Ahmad Lawan, urged Tinubu to withdraw his support for Godswill Akpabio’s Senate Presidency bid last week, shortly after Tinubu came back into the country.

While he was rendering the account of what transpired in his peace overtures, at Senator Ahmad Lawan’s residence, he said that himself, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, Sen. Barau Jibrin. Sen. Yayi Solomon Olamilekan, and Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, all prostrated and pleaded with Senator Ahmad Lawan, to forgive whatever mistakes or misgivings he felt he had committed and to support the aspiration but, Lawan refused to listen to them.

Akpabio said, “I went to Lawan’s house, prostrated for him to support me but he refused. I went with four other senators but, he bluntly refused and said instead of supporting me, he would support a first term senator from the South-South zone or he should sponsor anyone else for the Senate Presidency job. One of us even reminded him of the case of (name withheld), who denigrated the entire institution during proceedings in the 8th Senate.”

Further talking, he said on aspiring to lead the 9th Senate, there was strong opposition but, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, appealed to all of them that, since the incumbent president (Muhammadu Buhari) wanted him, then he (Lawan) should be forgiven and he was forgiven and voted for.
