Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has reportedly ruled out backing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
However, a close colleague of the governor who spoke with the Daily Independent on Tuesday about the instability in the main opposition claimed that Governor Wike would not abandon the PDP.
The colleague stated that he would not join the All Progressives Congress despite efforts from opposition party leaders before the general elections in 2023.
As a result of his problems with the ex-vice president, Atiku, Governor Wike has remained silent on the upcoming presidential election.
This comes after Governor Wike pledged to divulge to Nigerians all that has transpired within the PDP since Atiku became the party’s presidential nominee.
Wike stated, “On Atiku, I will shortly speak, and Nigerians will learn the genuine truth about everything that has transpired in the PDP in recent years.”
In response to Atiku’s interview on Arise TV, in which he claimed that the party’s nominating committee did not choose Wike as his running mate, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike made this statement.
Atiku, however, stated that the committee chaired by the governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, only presented three names to him, and he chose to work with one of them.
Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, was chosen as the running mate by the former vice president.
