Two Reasons Why Tambuwal Should Have Stepped Down For Wike Instead Of Atiku During PDP Primary

The former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election held at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Atiku scored a total of 371 votes, while his close contender, Governor Nyesom Wike, gathered 237 votes in the election.

Atiku was able to defeat Wike because the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, stepped down for him a few minutes before voting commenced.

The governor said he made the decision so that the opposition party would be more peaceful and united before the presidential election in 2023.

He pleaded with his supporters to take the decision in good faith and vote for Atiku Abubakar.

However, there are two powerful reasons why Governor Tambuwal should have stepped down for his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, and not Atiku Abubakar. They include:

1. Governor Wike supported Tambuwal in the last presidential primary election held in Port Harcourt in 2018.

However, Atiku also won the election while Tambuwal was the first runner-up. Wike was Tambuwal’s chief promoter. He gave his total support to the Sokoto State Governor.

Also, Wike has been supportive of the Sokoto State government and the good people of the state. He once donated millions of naira to victims of a fire at the Sokoto main market.

2. For fairness and equity, power should return to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023.
