The Kano state Hisbah has ordered shop owners, tailors and fashion designers to only use headless mannequins to advertise clothing.
According to the state commander of the Islamic police, Haruna Ibn-Sina, the mannequins promote idolatry which Islamic doctrines are against.
BBC quoted him as saying; “Islam frowns on idolatry”
“With the head on, it looks like a human being.”
Ibn-Sina also wants the headless mannequins covered at all times because to show “the shape of the breast, the shape of the bottom, is contrary to the teachings of Sharia [Islamic law]”.
The religious police, established to enforce Sharia law in some states in the region, recently banned stylish haircuts, sagging of trousers, playing of music at social events by disk jockeys and tricycle riders from adorning their vehicles with pictures considered to be obscene and against the tenets of Islam.
