Seven Man Utd stars up for sale this summer including former Young Player of the Year winner

Manchester United could be set for a busy summer as they look to rebuild and try to go for Premier League glory once more next season.

It looked at one stage as though they would be well in the race to finish top of the pile for the first time since 2013 in the current campaign.

But their bitter rivals Manchester City have ended up pulling well clear, and there is quite obviously still a big gap between the two.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperately hoping a quality addition or two can see his team get closer next season – but in order to do that a number of players will have to be moved on.

Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Sergio Romero and Lee Grant are all out of contract in the summer, and it is looking likely all four will depart.

And here are seven more players who could be joining them out of the Old Trafford exit door

It looked at one stage as though Chong would be a future star for United.

The Dutch winger won the club’s prestigious Young Player of the Season award in 2018, and it was widely expected he would have broken into the first-team by now.

But things have not really worked out so far, and he is currently on loan at Belgian side Club Brugge after a spell at Werder Bremen earlier in the season.

Given the strength of United’s attack it is not clear exactly where Chong would fit in upon his return, and although he has a contract until next year Solskjaer may well give his blessing to allow the 21-year-old to leave the club permanently early.

Andreas Pereira

Pereira is a player who has been in and out of the team ever since Solskjaer took charge in 2018.

Last season he made 25 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, but regularly flattered to deceive and was often a source of frustration amongst supporters.

This season he has been on loan at Lazio, where he has become an important part of the first-team.

And it would be no surprise at all to see him stay in Rome or join another Serie A side in the summer, with United likely to accept likely to accept any reasonable offers for the Brazilian.

Jesse Lingard

It will be intriguing to see what United decide about the future of Lingard.

After struggling for form at Old Trafford the attacking midfielder is a player reborn at West Ham, and he has scored a mightily impressive five goals in seven appearances so far.

This has even led to an England recall, and the 28-year-old is looking more and more like the player who took the Premier League by storm in his early days at United.

On the one hand, Solskjaer may be tempted to give Lingard another chance to see if he can repeat his West Ham performances for United next season.

On the other, he may accept that the change of scene was just what the player needed, and a permanent move to the London Stadium could be in the offing.

Diogo Dalot

Dalot’s situation is similar to that of Pereira.

The 22-year-old full-back is on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan after finding himself on the fringes of the United first-team.

Italian football appears to suit the player better, and he himself seems to have been enjoying his time on loan.

With the likes of Luke Shaw, Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka already at the club, it seems highly unlikely Dalot would be able to break back into the United starting 11 on a regular basis.

A sensible bid from Milan or another team would surely lead to United letting Dalot go.

Phil Jones

Yes, it’s true… Jones really is still a United player.

In truth the centre-back’s situation is a sad one, with Jones having once again been hampered with relentless injury problems all season.

Why United decided to offer him a new contract in 2019 is another question, but the unfortunate fact of the matter is that the player’s body simply does not seem able to cope with Premier League football anymore.

The biggest issue United are likely to face is finding a buyer, but if Jones can return to some level of fitness before the transfer window opens he could perhaps make a move to a lower league club.

It would be heartening just to see him back out on a pitch again.

Brandon Williams

Williams is another young player who has yet to live up to his early promise.

The superb performances of Shaw at left-back haven’t helped him, and the 20-year-old has not started a Premier League game all season.

It came as something of a surprise that he did not secure a loan move in January, and he has been left kicking his heels on the bench for the majority of the campaign.

Whether Solskjaer still feels he has a part to play in the future is the big question, and will determine whether Williams leaves permanently in the summer or is sent to gain some much-needed experience on loan.
