Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian forward who recently made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in the Europa League final, has credited his decision to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria with revitalizing his career, according to OwnGoalNigeria.
Lookman, who led Atalanta to their first European title in 60 years with a stunning hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, revealed that his career was going downhill until he made the bold decision to dump England for the Super Eagles.
Speaking after the game, Lookman said, “My career changed since I decided to play for Nigeria. I was going down the slope, but the support I receive from my people is incredible. It gives me the motivation and inspiration I need to grow in different areas, not only in football but also as a person.”
Lookman’s decision to switch allegiance was a surprise to many, given his successful stint with England’s youth teams, including winning the U20 World Cup in 2017. However, he has no regrets, citing the warm reception and support he receives from Nigerian fans as a major factor in his growth as a player.
