According to Metro, Mikel Arteta appears to have reconsidered his initial plans for Kai Havertz after the Arsenal star played a pivotal role in his team’s 3-0 victory over Brighton, suggesting a shift in strategy for the German midfielder.
Arsenal temporarily reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League with a commanding away performance, highlighted by goals from Bukayo Saka, Havertz, and Leandro Trossard.
Despite the return of Gabriel Jesus to full fitness, Arteta continued to entrust Havertz with the role of leading the line, a decision that paid dividends as the player seized the opportunity to showcase his talents once again.
Upon Havertz’s arrival from Chelsea in the summer, Arteta initially intended to deploy him in midfield, replacing the long-serving Granit Xhaka.
However, Havertz struggled to adapt to this new role, prompting Arteta to reconsider his approach.
An injury to Jesus prompted Arteta to experiment with Havertz in a false nine role, a decision that has proven successful since the turn of the year, leading to the player’s near-indispensable status in the team.
Reflecting on this tactical adjustment, Arteta explained, “I think you have to feel the player… Sometimes the players decide, not the manager, where they have to play.”
Havertz, buoyed by his strong performances, expressed his enjoyment and confidence in his current role, having achieved a personal best of nine Premier League goals for the season.
