“Why I don’t get awards despite my hard work” – Yemi Alade opens up

Popular Nigerian musician, Yemi Alade, has opened up on the obstacles she faces in winning awards despite her significant success and widespread recognition in the music industry.

In a recent interview, the ‘Johnny‘ coroner disclosed that her decision to maintain her integrity by refusing to comply with certain demands from entertainment executives has affected her accolade count.

Yemi Alade shared her experiences, revealing that numerous industry stakeholders had approached her with requests for sexual favors in exchange for promising career opportunities, lucrative deals, and even award wins.

“There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me. It was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today, men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria,” she said.

The singer emphasized that succumbing to such demands was often presented to her as a necessary step to access certain platforms, secure deals, and potentially win awards.

However, Alade maintained her stance against engaging in any form of sexual activities for professional gains.

“Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals, and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me,” she adede.

Despite the challenges she has encountered, Yemi Alade expressed no regrets about declining the offers, emphasizing that she values her dignity and the unwavering support of her devoted fans above all else.
