A young midfielder coming through the ranks at one of English football’s biggest clubs and hoping to reach the stars.
Fast forward to the present and, not only is he now one of the first names on Erik ten Hag’s teamsheet at Manchester United, but he also made his England debut on Saturday at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in a friendly, with Kobbie Mainoo making his international bow after 75 minutes.
The 18-year-old posted on Instagramthat it was a ‘special feeling’ making his England debut and it’s ‘a moment I will never forget’.
The rising star has been getting plaudits left, right and centre this season, and rightly so, because he has been outstanding.
Well, those plaudits didn’t stop because his fellow teammates reacted to his Three Lions debut.

Endrick steals the show for Brazil against England
When Southgate called Mainoo up, he was the talk of the town and there was a lot of limelight on him.
Many would have thought, he would have been the headline at the full-time whistle also given that he was expected to make his debut.
But the Manchester United teenager was outshone by another teenager, Endrick.
The soon-to-be-Real Madrid star, who is 17, came off the bench to score the winning goal and become the youngest-ever player to score at the home of football.
It’s fair to say, you are probably going to see more of Endrick and Mainoo in these coming years!
