Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has unveiled plans for the Kaduna refinery to commence production by December 2024.
Kyari made this announcement during a meeting with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria in Abuja.
Kyari also provided updates on the Port Harcourt refinery, stating that operations are set to begin in just two weeks.
He revealed that the mechanical completion of the Port Harcourt refinery had been achieved, with crude oil already stocked in the facility.
Regulatory compliance tests are currently underway, a necessary step before commencing operations.
“We did a mechanical completion of the (Port Harcourt) refinery, that was what we said in December. We now have crude oil already stocked in the refinery. We are doing regulatory compliance tests that must happen in every refinery before you start it, and I assure you that this Port Harcourt refinery will start in the next two weeks,” Kyari explained.
Kyari further elaborated on the progress of the Warri refinery, stating that mechanical work had been completed, and the facility is undergoing regulatory compliance processes with the regulator.
Regarding the Kaduna refinery, Kyari assured stakeholders that although the refinery had not reached the same stage of completion as Port Harcourt and Warri, it remains on track for delivery by December.
“The Kaduna refinery will be ready by December. We have not reached that stage in Kaduna, but we promise Kaduna will be delivered by December,” Kyari affirmed.
