Real Madrid claimed an emphatic victory over Barcelona to clinch the Supercopa trophy tonight. It was unbelievable as no one could have thought that Real Madrid could win the game by such a margin.
The first half was where Real Madrid decided the game as they took an early lead through Vinicius. The Brazilian was able to complete his hat trick in that half while Lewandowski was on target for Barcelona.
Rodrygo extended the lead in the second half to 4-1. Barcelona also missed several chances and Araujo was sent off as Real Madrid finished the game on top.
However, here are the four things learned as Barcelona bottled the final:
1. Barcelona’s High Defensive Line
This cost Barcelona the first and second goal in the first half as their defenders moved high up the pitch and left so much space behind. Carlo Ancelotti’s men were constantly exploiting those spaces throughout the match through long balls.
2. Lack of Aggressiveness from Barcelona players
Barcelona players were not aggressive in winning back the ball from Real Madrid players as they gave Carlo Ancelotti’s too much time on the ball to decide. Xavi needs to improve his players in this aspect of the game if he wants to continue playing high defensive line.
3. Barcelona’s inability to maintain focus
Barcelona players lost focus after conceding the third goal in the first half and this continued in the second half. Although they conceded first but that does not mean they should through away their focus easily.
4. Wastefulness of Barcelona’s forward
The match was particularly characterized by indecisiveness in the final third by Barcelona attackers. Barcelona created several chances but they managed to score a goal. This is unacceptable which shows that both the players and the manager should be blamed for the defeat.
