Punished & Expelled in Saudi Arabia, Karim Benzema Eyes Exit From Al Ittihad to Europe

Karim Benzema joining Al Ittihad, was a move expected to take them to the next level. Yet, their performances have been below par and Karim had to bear the brunt of the criticism. Hence, the striker has not shown up for training recently and coach Marcelo Gallardo has taken things into his own hands. Amidst all of this, Benzema is reportedly said to have plenty of options in hand.

The former Real Madrid man has a 3-year contract at Al Ittihad. Hence, a transfer could bring in a significant transfer fee. With Al Ittihad 7th in the table, can the upper management afford to let him go?

Following training no-show Karim Benzema is not favoured at Al Ittihad

Karim Benzema has not shown up for training recently and it seems manager Marcelo Gallardo is not impressed. As per Marca, the Frenchman has not shown up for the resumption of the team training. He was due to report this Friday the 12th at Jeddah, which he failed to do. In fact, he was absent for 3 previous training sessions as well. This has led to him being excluded from the Dubai training camp by Gallardo.

The breaking point for Karim seems to have been the match against former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Al Ittihad were beaten 5-2 in the game and the striker came in for severe criticism. This led to him deactivating his social media account and missing training ever since.

Benzema’s exclusion also puts his future at the club in jeopardy with many European and MLS clubs said to be interested in him. It is also believed that the Frenchman would prefer a return to Europe. What could be his next move?
