Rio Ferdinand shares what surprised him about Kevin De Bruyne in Newcastle 2-3 Manchester City

Rio Ferdinand has now shared what surprised him about Kevin De Bruyne as Manchester City recorded a 3-2 win over Newcastle.

The 45-year-old made the comments when speaking to Laura Woods and Joleon Lescott on TNT Sports after the Premier League clash.

So, what did Rio Ferdinand say about Manchester City No.17 Kevin De Bruyne? Let’s take a look…

What Ferdinand said about De Bruyne

Well, the TNT Sports pundit cannot believe how little time it has taken for the Belgium international to make an impact on his return from injury.

De Bruyne’s appearance on Tyneside was just his fourth outing of the season, and his first showing in the Premier League since recovering from a serious hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, it took De Bruyne just five minutes to score an equaliser after coming on for Bernardo Silva in the 69thminute, before the Belgian helped win all three points for Manchester City with a remarkable assist for Oscar Bobb in the 91st minute.

When Woods asked if Ferdinand was surprised by how quickly the 32-year-old has impacted Pep Guardiola’s side, the Manchester United legend simply replied: “Yes!”

We knew De Bruyne would provide a major boost for Manchester City, although it has also shocked us as to how quickly the £55m man has returned to his mesmeric ways of old.

De Bruyne could fire Manchester City to the Premier League title

Jürgen Klopp recently admitted the rest of the Premier League should fear the return of De Bruyne, and the German now appears to have been spot on with that comment.

Manchester City were struggling to break down a spirited Newcastle side before Guardiola introduced his masterful creator, but looked far more dangerous with the Drongen-born maestro on the pitch.

A goal and an assist in just 21 minutes of action is a remarkable feat – even for a player of De Bruyne’s quality.

If this is what the Manchester City No.17 is capable of after only just returning, who knows what he could do when he builds up enough fitness to start matches once again – a frightening prospect, to say the least.
