Mikel List Uzoho Among Two Things That Could Stop Super Eagles From Winning AFCON

Former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel has picked the two areas that could stop Super Eagles from winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The tournament begins on the 13th of January with Nigeria who are in the same group with the host playing their first game on the 14th against Equatorial Guinea. The first group game will be between the host and Guinea Bissau.

Speaking about the chances of the Nigerian team winning the tournament, Mikel who was a part of the team that won the 2013 edition said the attack of the team with Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar gives them a huge advantage.

He however said there are areas that could hinder the team and he pointed out that the defence and the goalkeeper department requires fixing, if they are to win the tournament.

“But we just have to fix some little issues with the defence and goalkeeping. I think if we can be able to do that, we’ve got a very good chance”, he told CNN.

Mikel’s statement is coming at a time when the shot stopper section of the team is suffering a lot with present first choice Francis Uzoho guilty of making several errors lately. Stanley Nwabali and Olorunleke Ojo both uncapped are his deputy going into the tournament.
