Kwara converts general hospital to teaching, upgrades hotel to five-star

Kwara State government has concluded plans to convert its general hospital into the state university teaching hospital.

Consequently, it has sent a bill to the state House Assembly for legislative consideration.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Al-Imam at a joint press briefing alongside her colleagues in the ministries of communication, business Innovation, and technology and works, explained that the teaching hospital will have far-reaching benefits to Kwarans and non-Kwarans beyond the state.

According to her, “the exco today (Wednesday) approved the conversion of the general hospital to Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to offer potential standard health care to the people.

“To this end, state government has presented a Bill to the state Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.”

Also speaking, the commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Damilola Yusuf disclosed that the exco has contracted the state hotel for reconstruction and remodeling at N17.8 billion.

She said the hotel on completion would compete with any five-star counterparts.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS,) Rafiu Ajakaye explained that the reconstruction would be financed by foreign partners while the state government takes over in due time.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulqowiyu Olododo hinted that the state is rolling out aggressive road and flyover constructions in the metropolis.

He said that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq was determined to change the face of the state urban areas.

He however added that the state government would not compensate any property owner whose house sits on the setbacks.
