'We played against more than a club': Porto boss aims dig at Barca after defeat

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has slammed the referee for his decision-making in their defeat to Barca while aiming a clear dig at the Blaugrana.

“I have already answered about it in the flash interviews, I don’t know if three or four [decisions that went against us]. We played against more than a club… And that is all I have to say,” Conceicao said.

The term ‘more than a club’ is Barcelona’s motto which shows Barca’s pedrigree as a sporting institution and not just a football club. However, Conceicao spins it to imply that Barca have an advantage with referees.

During the game, the referee waved off Porto’s penalty shouts after a last-ditch clean tackle on Taremi by Kounde. But in the second half, the ref was quick to point to the spot after a perceived handball by Cancelo – VAR overturned the decision.

Stats show that Barca received seven yellow card compared to Porto’s one. Gavi was also red-carded in the game. Nasty tackles to Kounde and one that left Lewandowski injured also went by without any serious punishment from the ref.
