Dembele’s agent demanded a five-year deal worth €100 million to renew at Barcelona

Ousmane Dembele is close to signing for PSG from Barcelona. The forward landed in Paris on Thursday to complete his medicals and sign his contract and an official announcement might not be far away.

The move came as a surprise, considering that Dembele himself had admitted earlier this summer that he was in talks to renew his contract at Barça.

But, the 26-year-old decided not to sign a new deal and instead sign for PSG as he reportedly felt a lack of trust from the club, among other reasons.

While the forward’s entourage insists that the move was not financially motivated, a fresh report from SPORT’s Ferran Correasregarding the contract negotiations with Barcelona paints a different picture.

Dembele’s agent demanded a huge contract

As per the report, Barcelona had offered Dembele a new five-year contract until 2028 with a significant improvement in his salary.

However, the forward and his agent, Moussa Sissoko, were not happy with what was offered and sent a counter-proposal that was deemed ‘insulting’ and ‘unaffordable’ by the club officials.

Indeed, Dembele wanted a new contract for five years with net wages worth €20 million per season, taking the entire value of the deal to €100 million.

Such a demand was never going to fly given Barcelona’s financial situation and the new salary scale that the club have put in place.

Naturally, Barça decided not to play ball and Dembele will now be joining PSG where he intriguingly will earn €20 million per year as per reports.

Barcelona feel deceived by Dembele and his agent

The report goes on to state that sources close to Barcelona president Joan Laporta claim that the club feel greatly deceived by Dembele and his representative with whatever has happened in the last few days.

It is further claimed that Laporta and manager Xavi spoke to the winger to clarify that they had not offered him to any club, contrary to speculations in the French media.

The Blaugrana are said to have made it clear that they value him and feel disappointed by the ‘ingratitude’ shown by the player.
