The Labour Party presidential campaign council (LP-PCC) has condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly trying to stop its candidate, Peter Obi, from contesting in a possible rerun of the presidential election.
Labour Party in a statement issued by the head of media for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Diran Onifade, suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC), under Tinubu’s leadership, is resorting to “desperate measures to undermine Obi’s image”.
Onifade said, “Obi-Datti Media office has noted how a worried ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and its Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu are even wishing and pleading with the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal PEPC to consider pairing them with ATIKU Abubakar of the PDP instead of Obi.
“In fact, wants Obi disqualified outrightly and be prevented from participating in the rerun, should there be one.
“In their desperation to stop Obi at all costs, they have lined up a series of untoward activities using rogue troll agents that seek to portray him negatively and copiously misrepresent him in public space”.
The Obi-Datti Campaign office therefore called on the public to “watch out for more of these sinister acts of desperation orchestrated by a drowning government that is visibly afraid of justice which must certainly come”.
Tinubu faulted both Obi and LP for asking the court to cancel the election and compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh poll in which he (Tinubu), Shettima and the APC would not participate.
He argued that should the relief be granted, Obi and LP would not derive any benefit, having been constitutionally barred from contesting the rerun election
However, in a swift reaction, Obi urged the five-member panel of the PREPEC not to subvert the will of the people as expressed in the February 25 presidential election, stressing that they should sack Tinubu without further delay
