Senate Presidency: I’ve Never Disobeyed APC, But They Will See Me This Time Around – Orji Kalu

According to the news published by Premium Newspaper Online, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia has threatened a confrontation with the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over plans to zone the position to a specific region as competition for the position of Senate President in the upcoming 10th National Assembly grows.

Remember that in the past two weeks, media reports have claimed that the APC and the President-elect have agreed to zone the Senate President position to the South-South region of the nation and have also selected Senator Godswill Akpabio as a consensus candidate.

However, Kalu, who is also running for the position, promised that he and other irate MPs would fight any attempts to impose a candidate on them during a contentious meeting with the ruling party’s National Working Committee on Thursday at its headquarters.

On the day of the proclamation and voting in the National Assembly, he claims that he and other disgruntled candidates will reject the APC’s zoning formula.

If the APC decides to move forward with this idea, I’m going to say no, he declared. I believe in the party and I love to party. I brought three of my coworkers with me because I’ve never broken this party’s rules.

However, you folks will see me this time. This will be the first time we refuse to do what the party requests. We won’t comply with anything you say on the Senate floor.
