After losing hope to win any domestic title this season including English Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup, Chelsea revived their chances of winning a title this season after the West London club defeated Borussia Dortmund by 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening to reach the Final 8 of the UEFA Champions League.
The West London club ruined the winning streak of Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday to qualify for the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League with an aggregate of 2-1.
While Chelsea awaits their opponents in the Quarterfinals of the European tournament as the draw for the Final 8 will be made next week when the Round of 16 encounters ended, Graham Potter might have to start sweating about his decision on player selection for the Quarterfinals.
Reece James, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kepa Arrizabalaga Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher were all impressive for the West London club against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday but, these Players might not be available for the Quarterfinals.
Reece James, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Thiago Silva and Mykhaylo Mudryk have already accumulated enough yellow cards so much that their next yellow card will each get them suspended.
If any of the aforementioned Players get a yellow card in the first leg of the UEFA Champions Quarterfinals, they will not be able to feature in the second leg due to suspension.
They will however be able to return for the Semifinals because yellow card accumulation gets reset after the second leg but, it could be late for Chelsea by then because the West London club might not survive the Quarterfinals without these Players.
Chelsea has just two options now in order to survive that imminent threat. They could win with a huge margin in the first leg of the Quarterfinals so that they won’t miss these Players when they aren’t available for the second leg or Graham Potter could hope that these Players don’t get a yellow card in the first leg of the Quarterfinals to avoid suspension.
