Some reports are linking Argentina’s under-radar star Julian Alvarez with a summer move to Barcelona – either on loan or on a permanent deal.
The forward should fit Xavi’s tactics like a glove. Let’s take a look.
Option 1: Classic 4-3-3
Alvarez is usually the most effective as a left inside forward. He is fantastic at finding space to run into and making a final pass – over 30 assists in 122 appearances for River Plate were not occasional.
If Xavi decides to distract from his four-midfielder formations sometimes, Alvarez will surely be the best choice on the left wing. He would be supported by a highly-creative trio of Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, as well as by Alejandro Balde on his wing. Looks splendid.
Option 2: Four midfielders
In this scenario, Alvarez would act as a second striker to Robert Lewandowski, supported by Pedri and Gavi from deeper positions.
Julian knows how to score headers, left/right-footed shots and even penalties, so he would definitely boost our frontline while providing Lewandowski with some good balls.
