Fans are stunned after 5ft 9 Gavi got the better of 6ft 6 Wout Weghorst in the air at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona and Manchester United locked horns in a huge Europa League play-off clash on Thursday night and it was an entertaining first half, with both sides attacking and playing on the front foot.

There were chances for both Weghorst, Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski at either end but the moment that really caught the eye of viewers involved Barca midfielder Gavi.

The 18-year-old has rapidly developed into a key player for the Blaugrana, displaying incredible technical ability and bite in midfield.

Given his slight and fall frame, the wonderkid is not known as being an aerial threat but he conquered Weghorst in a proper David vs Goliath battle.

Weghorst dropped deep in a surprise No.10 position for the game and it meant he and Gavi went up for a header in the 11th minute.

However, it was the young Spaniard who won the duel, despite being a clear second favourite to emerge victorious.

Fans erupted with reaction online, with many in disbelief over what they had just seen.

One wrote: “I swear does Weghorst ever win a header? Even lost one to Gavi today!”

A second said: “Imagine Gavi winning a header against this big for nothing Weghorst.”

A third commented: “Remember when fans were seriously hyping up Weghorst… 6’7 mans losing headers to Gavi and missing sitters in a knockout clash… pitiful.”

A fourth opined: “Imagine doing this against a player as tall as Weghorst. Gavi’s work rate is unmatched.”

A fifth added: “Weghorst contesting the ball against Gavi and still lost the header. Gavi is way too short to win that header.”
