FIFA unveil candidates for Best XI, 2 key Madrid players surprisingly out

FIFA have unveiled the 26 candidates for the FIFPRO Men’s World 11 for 2022.

Here’s the shortlist.

Goalkeepers: Alisson, Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martinez.

Defenders: Joao Cancelo, Alphonso Davies, Virgil van Dijk, Josko Gvardiol, Achraf Hakimi, Lucas Hernandez, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva.

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Casemiro, Kevin De Bruyne, Enzo Fernandez, Gavi, Luka Modric, Pedri, Fede Valverde.

Forwards: Karim Benzema, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, Leo Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid have won La Liga and Champions League in 2022, with Toni Kroos and Vinicius Juniors playing key roles in the two campaigns.

The Brazilian, for example, recorded 21 goals and 18 assists in 2022, but Cristiano Ronaldo, with all due respect, is still on the list ahead of him. Another questionable decision is putting Jude Bellingham or Gavi ahead of Kroos.

This award is designed for the best players in each position and will be voted by the players. The winners will be revealed on February 27.
