Pele’s coffin was taken to the home ground of the Brazil’s icon’s former ground as fans paid their respects to one of football’s greatest players.
The former striker sadly died at the age of 82 last Thursday following a battle with cancer.
Pele was one of the most successful and talented players to have ever graced the sport of football.
He won three World Cups and scored is understood to have scored 1,279 goals throughout his career, and fans have been paying their tributes in the aftermath of his passing.
He will lie in state for 24 hours before being buried at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenical on Tuesday.
Fans could also be seen with fireworks and flares, with the hearse carrying his coffin being surrounded by those who loved him.
He will forever remain as a true icon of football having made so many people fall in love with the sport.
In honour of Pele, FIFA president Gianni Infantino outlined his intentions to call for every country around the world to name a stadium after him.
Speaking to reporters in Brazil, he has been quoted saying by the Press Association: “We’re going to ask every country in the world to name one of their football stadiums with the name of Pele.”
The likes of Neymar and Ronaldo have paid their own tributes to the former striker, with the footballing world now in mourning.
