The Barcelona manager has come out to apologize to the fans for their failure to get a meaningful result against Inter Milan in a UEFA Champions League tie on Wednesday night. Barcelona were held to a 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp. A result that seems to jeopardize Barca’s chances of progressing from the group stage of the Uefa Champions League and puts them in line for Europa League football. But in reaction to the result, Xavi has, in addition to apologizing, given an excuse for why Barcelona couldn’t live up to expectations.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Xavi is quoted as saying: “I’m sad and angry. I apologize because it’s everyone’s mistake. We had put it into our heads not to fail, but we did. We tell Barçelona fans that we will work to turn the table around and win titles.”
So many fans couldn’t understand why Xavi didn’t take the blame for Wednesday night’s performances, but instead had to drag the players along when he said it was everyone’s mistake. Some even angrily said that Xavi should be sacked for making the same mistakes of benching important players in seemingly important games like the Inter Milan match. See reactions below.
