SSANU and NASU cannot run universities without ASUU, Committee of Vice Chancellors reveals

Despite the fact that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have suspended their strike action, the Committee of Vice Chancellors in Nigeria has revealed that full operations of public universities cannot commence as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were still on strike.

This was made known by the committee’s chairman, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem during an interview with TRIBUNE NEWS. He explained that no concrete activity can take place as teaching which was the primary objective of universities can only be performed by teachers who are currently not available.

He stated that the roles of ASUU in the university system can never be underestimated as they are professionals of different fields whose level of performance cannot be compared with another. He however urged Nigerians to pray and hope that both parties reach an agreement so academic activities can begin on campuses.
