Manchester United’s start to the new season is moving in the direction nobody expected. The Red Devils have lost two consecutive games in the league and that’s their first two games of the season. The last time a Manchester United manager lost his first two premier league games of the season was over 100 years ago. It’s not looking good for Erik Ten Hag at the moment and he needs to steady the ship in the next few games if he wants to keep his job.
Aside from their embarrassing 4-0 loss to Brentford, one of the talking points from Manchester United’s last game was Cristiano Ronaldo’s aptitude at the end of the game. The Portuguese international played the whole 90 mins for Manchester United in their loss to Brentford and after the full-time whistle, Ronaldo was expected to join his teammates and apologize to the fans who were still in the stands but instead, he headed straight for the tunnel. While he was walking towards the tunnel, he appeared to snub Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag who was standing just 2 metres away from him.
A few hours after the game, reports came out that Manchester United could consider terminating Ronaldo’s contract if there’s no change of attitude from him. Given the way Ronaldo has been acting lately, it’s difficult to see Manchester United keeping him if this goes on. It’s better to have the 38-year-old’s contract terminated now than for his behaviour to affect the dressing room negatively. Erik Ten Hag is on a quest to rebuild the Manchester United team and having an unhappy player in the dressing room will not help his cause.
It’s been previously reported that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club, maybe now is the time to let him go. Manchester United player excellently well without Ronaldo in their pre-season games so they can go on without him, no problems. On Ronaldo’s part, he should make it clear if he is a part of the team or a part of the problems. If he wants to work for Erik Ten Hag or not? Because knowing Ten Hag, the last thing the Dutch manager wants is to work with an unhappy player in his squad. He would be more than willing to let unhappy players leave, no matter how important these players think they are.
