Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has apologised for his statement calling some of the church’s pastors ‘a goat.’

In a statement released on his Instagram account on Thursday, Leke said he would take the disciplinary measures given him by the church as a period of reflection and introspection.

He wrote, “I wish to use this medium to tender my unreserved apologies on the statement made from my social media handle about some of our esteemed Pastors. The disciplinary measures taken by the mission is well received and this period will be used to reflect and introspect.

“I wish to crave your indulgence to please forgive my extreme statement which I wish to emphasise was absolutely not intended to insult or malign. I also wish to apologise profusely to the entire leadership and pastors of our beloved church who might have been hurt by this statement. I remain humbly yours in God’s love and mercies. Yours in His service.”

Many social media users have reacted positively to Leke’s apology while others dismissed it as rehearsed.

A Twitter user, Monday Jato (@jato_monday), tweeted, “Good. Let’s put the matter behind us and move on. The Church is marching on and the gates of hell shall not prevail. Satan has lost the battle.”

Another tweep, Hessojay Hegemony (@soj_moz) tweeted, “How does calling someone a ‘goat’ not intended to insult or malign? He knew exactly what he was doing. He should own up and apologise heartily.”

A user named Dawari Cottrell (@Dawari_Cottrell) said, “But, how..Leke Adeboye…and this GOAT thing. Thought, been “Greatest Of All Times” at what you do is a good thing. Why apologize! Lol! What’s the issue am lost Doc!”

Adeboye had on Monday, in an Instagram post now deleted, slammed RCCG pastors who preached their messages after the G.O. had preached his sermon, describing them as ‘goats.’

“Why would you go and preach another sermon after Daddy GO has just finished speaking and preaching. You are not a son, you are a goat sir. Next Thanksgiving service, just do altar call, then Thanksgiving,” he wrote.

The post had attracted public outrage which many social media users condemned as inappropriate and called for his suspension.
