Samuel Eto’o watched from the stands as his country was knocked out from the AFCON 2021 semifinal game. Eto’o told the team earlier on before the game that they should see the match as a War. That could have been said to be a motivational word to stir up the team but it’s a negative word to use in football.
The game is all about losing and winning. Carlos Queiroz was so quick in countering that statement. He called it a wrong message to the Cameroon fans and he said his team would do the opposite by approaching the game with love.
Eventually, love won at the end of the day. Football isn’t a do-or-die affair, it’s built on the solid foundation of Unity and to foster peace all around the world. I think Eto’o will have to change his perception about this beautiful game after last night’s blow to the title. Cameroon has won the title five times now and Egypt has won it seven times. Maybe Eto’o aggressive expression came from the eagerness to dominate the African continent.
