Tinubu Dissolves Governing Boards of Federal Universities, ASUU Reacts

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the decision of the federal government to dissolve the governing councils of all federal universities in the country.

In June, the National Universities Commission (NUC) dissolved the governing councils of all federal universities following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive.

Reacting to the development, Chris Yilgwan, University of Jos (UNIJOS) ASUU chairman, described the move as “a major setback” for the growth and development of university education in Nigeria, The Cable reported.

Yilgwan argued that such a directive cancripple the country’s university system if not addressed, Premium Times report added.

the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) reacted to the newly signed Student Loan Act by President Tinubu, stating that many students will withdrawfrom school.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, June 14, ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said the Student Loan Act has the potential of sending many students out of school.
