The Vice Presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress, Senator Kashim Shettima, spoke on how his mentor Bola Asiwaju Tinubu contributed to making Lagos a state of peace, safety, and security.
Shettima described his experience by saying that his mother forbade him from traveling for work when he got his first job at Lagos State in 1999. For almost two weeks, he had to beg.
Eventually, when his mother agreed, she organized a special prayer for Shettima’s protection as he prepared to leave for the state.
In his words: “Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, spoke about how his principal Bola Asiwaju Tinubu helped transform Lagos into a peaceful, safe and secure state.
While narrating his experience, Shettima stated that when he got his first job at Lagos State in 1999, his mother refused to allow him travel for the job. He had to plead with for almost two weeks.
And, as he (Shettima) was about to travel to the state, his mother organized a special prayer for his safety. In his words:
“When I first got a job in Lagos in 1999, I have to beg my mother for two weeks before he allowed to go. By then, the fear of Lagos for an average northerner was the beginning of wisdom. Before he allowed me to go they had to assemble a crowd of Marabouts to pray for my safety.
He continued: “That was how bad things were and I want you to compare the situation of things in Lagos 30 years ago and what is now. Now Lagos is safest state in West Africa. This is why leadership is very crucial for growth”.
The serving Senator and former Borno State Governor narrated the story during a speech he delivered on Thursday at the APC Professionals Forum’s one-day symposium titled “Dissecting the Asiwaju Manifesto, Renewed Hope 2023: Action Plan for a Better Nigeria.”
