A blockbuster game of football was played in the African Cup Of Nations semi-final round today when Nigeria and South Africa battled each other at the Stade de la Paix. The Nigerian National Team were under pressure at some point in this encounter after South Africa got a dying-minute equalizer holding them to a dramatic 1-1 at full-time through goals from William Troost-Ekong and Teboho Mokoena.
The Nigerian Players showed their great confidence in the encounter as they eventually came out victorious by defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties.
Well, Stanley Nwabali retained his position in the starting lineup for Nigeria in this encounter as he put up a stellar performance against South Africa. The Chippa United Shot-Stopper showed confidence and composure in between the sticks for the Super Eagles as he made some important saves to prevent South Africa from converting several of their goalscoring chances in the encounter. Stanley Nwabali also made two important saves in the penalty shootout, ensuring the Super Eagles got that very important victory over the Bafana Bafana.
Well, based on my opinion, Stanley Nwabali’s incredible display in this tournament for the Super Eagles shows he deserves to win the AFCON Best Goalkeeper award this year. The 28-year-old has only conceded only two goals in this competition so far, keeping four clean-sheets in his six AFCON appearances for the Super Eagles. There is absolutely no doubt he deserves this award for his great impact on the Super Eagles team.
