Cristiano Ronaldo was on the verge of a hat trick before he was taken off by Roberto Martinez in tonight’s European Championship qualification match. The manager should have allowed him to score a hat trick before taking him off for some season.
Portugal had a brilliant first half as they scored five goals. They got a two-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes as Ronaldo scored an early brace through penalty and from open play. Bruno Fernandes scored the third goal. Joao Cancelo scored the fourth goal while Joao Felix scored the fifth goal to seal the 5-0 win for Portugal.
However, Martinez should have allowed Ronaldo to score his third goal before taking him off so that the 38-year-old could take the match ball home and break more records. The fans applauded and chanted his name when he was to be substituted. The moment Ronaldo left the match, Portugal struggled to add more goals to their result.
Ronaldo has now scored a brace in each of his last two games and he will be looking forward to scoring a hat trick eventually in his next game for Portugal.
