I deliberately closed borders — Buhari

According to President Muhammadu Buhari, his administration’s policies have been specifically designed to advance the nation.

This was said by him on Tuesday at the opening of the new Customs Headquarters in Abuja, which cost N19.6 billion to construct.

According to Buhari, such policies became legacy programs since they ultimately brought happiness to the nation’s citizens.

He cited, as one such policy, the prohibition on the importing of foreign rice.

“I purposefully shut the borders. He continued, “Later, Nigerians realized what I had stated when I indicated that you either cultivate what you eat or you eat what you grow.

Buhari stated that he had nothing to conceal in regards to corruption and added that “those who are following Nigerian leaders to condemn them for misappropriation and misbehavior will have a problem with me.”

Regarding relations with neighboring African nations, the president emphasized the importance of keeping friendly connections with them.

My first trip as president was to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon because, as I said, “If you don’t win their trust, you’re in trouble.”

The new customs headquarters, according to Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning Zainab Ahmed, is a representation of the current administration’s dedication to efficient service delivery.

According to her, the board gave the wellbeing of the customs workers top priority.

She claimed that among other things, the board ensured “regular promotion for customs personnel, training opportunities.”

She congratulated the president for approving the Nigeria Customs Act 2022, noting that it will significantly improve the service’s ability to adhere to best practices from around the world.

Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and other stakeholders for their ongoing support, noting that it has improved the service’s mission of generating money and facilitating trade.

Earlier, retired Col. Hammed Ali, Comptroller of Customs, said he made sure the facility was finished to create a welcoming environment for staff to successfully carry out their duties.

“When I took office,

I was determined to put the three “Rs” into practice: reform, restructuring, and raising the service’s revenue profile.

“In light of this, I was without a doubt that a conducive environment is important, so I made sure the new corporate headquarters was finished.”

Ali claimed that the structure was equipped with the latest technology and monitoring tools to keep an eye on operations at the nation’s various borders and commands.

According to Ali, the structure, which occupies a space of about 25,000 square meters, was created by domestic companies.

He claimed that despite difficulties and changes throughout the project, the service was proud to build one of the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja’s most economically sound structures.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the “Customs House” corporate headquarters for Customs is situated in Abuja’s Maitama neighborhood.

The structure has a tower with a 12-floor height, five floors on each of its two wings, and “bridges” connecting the two wings.

To give employees and authorized building visitors with a comfortable and productive working environment, the concept was created in 2002.
