Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 4-1 on aggregate to knock them out of the Copa del Rey title race. Karim Benzema netted a Hat-trick in the match while Vinicius Junior scored one goal against the Catalan club.
1. Barcelona Played Without Two Key Players
Andreas Christensen and Frenkie De Jong are among the best players in Barcelona right now. The two players missed the match and the Catalan club struggled in their midfield positions. Frenkie De Jong has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world. He came close to leave Barcelona last summer but decided against joining Manchester United.
The Dutchman did not train with his teammates in the last training session before the match completely ruling out his presence against Real Madrid.
Andreas Christensen is also a regular starter at Barcelona. He was unable to feature against Real Madrid due to injury. Marcos Alonso replaced Christensen and the Spain international struggled to perform well against the Los blancos.
Christensen has formed an impressive defensive partnership with Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo and Alejandro Balde this season. Barcelona would have performed better if the four players were available.
2. Xavi Should Have Brought In Some Youngsters
The Barcelona manager should have brought in some youngsters who were on the bench. Estanis Pedrola, Pablo Torre, Angel Alarcon and Garrido didn’t feature against Real Madrid. The youngsters need to get more game time at Barcelona considering their impressive performances at academy levels.
