Why Chelsea Owners Should Drop The Idea Of Appointing Former Barcelona Coach As Potter’s Replacement

Chelsea’s owners are currently in the hunt for a coach who will fill in the permanent managerial vacuum left by Graham Potter.

 

 

Several names has been drawn up, with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique expected to be approached by the Chelsea board over a potential interview for the vacant coaching position.

 

 

Enrique is presently without a job after leaving his role as Spain’s national team manager following their elimination at the round of 16 hurdle during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Spanish tactician recently expressed his desire to manage in the Premier League, and although he can bring his wealth of experience to Stamford Bridge if appointed, here’s why the club should drop the idea of giving him the job.

 

 

Anyone could argue that Enrique is the right person to replace Potter due to his track record during his time at Barcelona which saw him win The Treble, but then he couldn’t have achieved all those without the help of 3 of football’s best players at the time.

 

 

If we want to critically judge Enrique’s achievements, we should look at his stint as Spain’s coach.

During the World Cup, Spain had 1000+ passes and more than 70% possession of the ball but still failed to make it past the round of 16.

There’s a big doubt that Enrique can repeat his Barcelona success at Chelsea where instead of having Messi and Suarez, he will have to make do with the likes of Sterling and David Datro Fofana.
