A Kwara State High Court has stopped the State House of Assembly from appointing Hajia Jummai Kperogi as a contract staff and Clerk to the House pending the determination of the motion on notice filed by a civic group, the Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD).
This was stated in the ruling of the court on Monday while granting an interlocutory injunction to restrain the Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA), and its Speaker, Yakubu Danladi.
ENetSuD informed the Court that the KWHA, led by the Speaker, has concluded plans to re-appoint Jummai Kperogi as Clerk to the House for the third term in its next sitting on April 4, 2023, despite the fact that the suit challenging the legality or otherwise of her previous appointment is still pending and awaiting judgment from the Court.
It should be noted that Jummai Kperogi retired from the state Civil Service on September 29, 2021. As a result, the House appointed her as a contract Clerk for a six-month trial period.
After her initial 6-month contract as Clerk expired, the House re-appointed her for a second term to continue serving for another year, which ended on March 29, 2023.
The application for an interlocutory injunction by ENetSuD was heard today, and the Court granted ENetSuD’s request for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the KWHA, Speaker, and Commission from renewing the contract and/or reappointing Jummai Kperogi as Clerk of the House pending the final determination of the motion on notice.
