Rihanna and A$AP Rocky Did Not Hire Nannies After Bringing Their Son Home From the Hospital

When it comes to parenting her nine-month-old son, Rihanna is completely hands-on.

In her latest interview with British Vogue—which featured a stunning family photo on the cover—the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer revealed that she and partner A$AP Rocky did not hire nannies immediately after welcoming their first child in May 2022. “We came home [from the hospital], cold turkey, had no one,” she told the publication. “It was just us as parents and our baby. Man, you’re a zombie for the most part.”

Rihanna described giving birth as a “beautiful” experience, but also a complete “head fuck.”

“I cannot believe it. Essentially, from one person I became two,” she said. “You walk into the hospital as a couple and leave as a family of three. It’s nuts. And oh, my gosh, those first days are insane. You don’t sleep. At all. Not even if you wanted to.”

Rihanna continued, “You’re just going through the motions and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us?” She starts laughing. “No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?”

Mornings became the “Diamonds” singer’s favorite part of the day. “I remember in the beginning I used to roll his bassinet into the bathroom and be showering and like wiping the fog off [the glass] just to peep at him,” she said.

While Rihanna changed the maternity style gameduring her first pregnancy, she stuck with “sweats and hoodies” for those first few weeks at home. “Dressing for pregnancy was such a piece of cake,” she said. “But dressing in postpartum, what the fuck do you do? The week that I came home from the hospital—that was nothing but sweats and hoodies. But the weeks after that, you don’t know what to put on. Everything is too small or too big.” She continued, “You kind of just gotta wait it out otherwise you end up buying so many clothes you’re not going to use. Well, unless you get pregnant again.”
