Ancelotti names one tactical tweak that 'changed' Atletico game, not subbing Rodrygo on

“We didn’t play well in the first half. Then I decided to move Modric closer to the attackers and it changed the game,” Carlo Ancelotti told the media after Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Reyquarterfinals.

“I can’t understand how a team can play that bad in the first half and then so good in the second half and the extra time. I don’t have an explanation,” the Italian boss added.

Ahead of Real Madrid’s equaliser against Atletico, Rodrygo dropped a bit deeper to collect the ball from Modric and start his solo run.

The way Real Madrid won Thursday’s clash may remind one of their classic Champions Leagueperformances last season. After an unimpressive first half, the team switch on the fifth gear and play much better football in the second half and beyond, coming from behind to win the game.
