Osun State: Four Things Adeleke Has Done Since Becoming Governor
A new era for Osun State began when Senator Adeleke was sworn in as the sixth elected governor on November 27, 2022.
Adeleke rolled up his sleeves and got to work. Here are four things he has done since he resumed office.
1. Issued six Executive Orders
A day after he was sworn in as Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke issued six Executive Orders. These orders included sacking all the workers employed by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, after the latter lost his re-election,the immediate staff audit of the actual number of government workers in their various Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards and Parastatals;
dethroning three monarchs, whose installations were, allegedly, controversial; freezing of all Government accounts in all banks and other financial institutions; seeking to change the state from The State of Osun to Osun State and the appellation from The State of the Virtuous to The State of the Living Spring; finally he set up a review committee.
2. Orders for Expedited Payment of Salaries
Governor Ademola Adeleke, directed that salaries of the state workers be paid as soon as possible.
A statement signed by the spokesperson to the governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said: “Any agency head who obstructs the process of scheduling will face disciplinary procedures.”
This warning is sequel to report that some agencies are still holding unto their agency’s schedules despite the directive of the governor.
3. Orders review of Osun IGR
He directed the committee on revenue to review the services of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to allow for the improvement of the IGR of the state.
4. Gov. Adeleke Reverses Osun State Polytechnic Tuition Fees
The “dancing governor’ directed the management of the state polytechnic, Iree, to reverse the fee payable by students.
The school authority had increased its fees for the 2022/23 academic session from N67,850 to N112,850 for science students and 57,300 to 97,300 for others.
However, in a memo to the school management by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Adelani A. Aderinola, dated December 15, it (school management) was directed to suspend the new fee regime.
