#QATAR2022: What my players will do to Messi during FIFA World Cup final – Didier Deschamps

France manager Didier Deschamps has expressed his opinion on Lionel Messi’s fight with Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final on Sunday, December 18.

However, defending champions France beat Morocco 2-0 on Wednesday in the semi-finals to reach their second consecutive final. Similarly, the Albiceleste beat Croatia 3-0 in the second leg of the semi-final to book their place in the top flight.

After his victory over Morocco, France manager Deschamps was asked about the prospect of facing Messi in the final at Lusail Stadium. He replied (via PSG Talk):

“Messi really shines in this competition, four years ago it was different. He played like a big forward against us and it wasn’t what I expected at the time. He’s more of a two-man team now, has a lot of freedom and touches the ball a lot. He was very strong.”

He added: “We will try to block his influence, as the Argentines will try to block the influence of some of my players. But Argentina was not in the same situation four years ago.

France face the South American giants in the round of 16 as they go to win the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The Blues won 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

However, the Albiceleste are currently strong, having lost just one of their last 42 games in all competitions. Their captain Messi is in good form, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the 2022 World Cup so far.
