OFFICIAL:Serena Williams Retires From Tennis With An Emotional Statement After Losing At The US Open

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams has officially waved farewell to tennis on an emotional Friday night after her 3rd-round loss to Ajla Tomljanovic at the 2022 U.S. Open.

You will recall that Serena Williams had announced that she was preparing to wrap up her tennis career as she reportedly said she’s evolving into the next chapter of her life. However, Serena Williams in series of posts and videos on the verified Facebook handle of US Open Tennis Championships few hours ago, emotionally said, “I thank everyone that’s here, that’s been on my side for so many years, decades, literally decades.

“It all started with my parents. They deserve everything. I’m grateful for them. These are happy tears. And I wouldn’t be Serena if it wasn’t for Venus. Thank you, Venus. She’s the only reason Serena Williams ever existed. It’s been a fun ride. It’s been the most incredible ride and journey I’ve ever been on in my life.”

Reacting to this, a former President of the United States, Barack Obama said via his verified Facebook handle, “Congratulations, Serena, for your heart, skill, intelligence, dedication, and grace. Few athletes have inspired more people both in and beyond their sport!”

Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios, an Australian professional tennis player, also said that “she’s had a career that I don’t think no one else will emulate”.
