2023: PDP State Chairmen Divided Over Demand For Atiku’s Single Term, Ayu’s Resignation

The state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are divided over the call for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to run for a single term in office.

The opinions of the chairmen also defer in the demand for the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office.

There had been claims that the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike wants Ayu out of office, and a single term agreement if Atiku wins the 2023 presidential election.

Some of the state party chairmen believes the call for Ayu’s removal is ill-timed as the 2023 general elections is close.

Others asked Ayu to resign from his position if it would be in the interest of the main opposition party.

The state chairman further stated that Ayu’s decision would be his sacrifice for the party’s unity ahead of the 2023 race.

The party chairmen are expected to meet soon to take a position on a single term in office if Atiku wins and Ayu’s resignation.

members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party are also divided with some pledging their loyalty to Governor Wike, while others insisted that the National Chairman of the party must remain in office.
